Blachly: Amours in the Deep
1pmSarah will sing "Amours in the Deep" from James Blachly's Songs of Ishmael
The opening of the Time's Arrow Festival will include two concerts on January 2nd, featuring music by composers who have worked and performed at Trinity Wall Street and Saint Paul's Chapel. While the majority of the music performed at Trinity is sacred music for choir, organ, and orchestra, Trinity's musicians represent a wealth of experience in other fields. The two concerts will focus on the intimate art song genre, and feature music by Trinity composers from 1990 to the present, including Doug Balliett, James Blachly, Caleb Burhans, Owen Burdick, Chris DeBlasio, Eric Dudley, Caroline Shaw, Julian Wachner, and Jonathan Woody.

Lorelei Ensemble: Witness
8pmFor its 10th anniversary, Lorelei commissions four new works for women's voices by four brilliant and timely composers: James Kallembach, Augusta Read Thomas, Shawn Kirchner, and Jonathan Woody. Modern spirituals by Thomas, Kirchner, and Woody serve as responses to Kallembach's The Death of Antigone, which parallels ancient martyrdom with 20th century activism. An extension of Lorelei's ongoing "New Americana" initiative (funded by New Music USA in 2014), "Witness" shifts its glance outward toward modern global crises, and offers four re-imaginings of a truly American genre as a vehicle toward global empathy and action.
